As it was expected Jeep Officials are planning to present a diesel engine for Wrangler, because of its better fuel economy. There was nothing said about the price, but probably the diesel will be a bit more expensive. This new diesel engine will be available in the new 2016 Wrangler, that will be unveiled in 2015. According to an source familiar to industry, the new diesel engine will debut before the end of the model’s lifecycle because manufacturer expect that it will improve sales. And after that they will launch restyled model.
2016 Jeep Wrangler: Redesign ande Release Date
At that point, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler will be redesigned, probably with new interior trim and exterior colors. And that is a habit of automakers to present new engine or some upgraded technology to make a buzz for an old version of vehicle. Although marketing has a big part in that, manufacturers added diesel engines because of fuel price and U.S. government mandate for better fuel economy.
This Wrangler’s diesel engine will probably be the one that is used in the 2013 Ram pickup and 2014 Grand Cherokee. That would be a turbocharged 3.0-liter Ecodiesel V6 engine, that is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and produces a 240 hp and 420 lb-ft. Its engine is produced by an Italian engine maker VM Motori, where Fiat own some stakes.
The Grand Cherokee’s fuel economy is rated at 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway for the 4×4 model and 30 mpg highway for the 4×2.This diesel engine is a pricey option, for which Jeep is asking a $4,500 premium.
Sales begin this spring.
